The Ecoboardlabel Project from Sustainable Surf
Our Kun_tiqi balsa wood boards are all Ecoboard Goldlevel Label certified. It is the highest available certification of independent, consumer-facing “eco-labels” for surfboards.
“ECOBOARD Gold Level rewards the top sustainable boards and board builders – those with the greatest environmental impact reduction” – sustainablesurf.org”
Sustainable Surf is a California based non-profit organisation founded in 2011. Their goal is to inspire and activate people around the world to start living a sustainable lifestyle. To accomplish this, they started multiple global programs like SeaTrees, Deep Blue Events, Waste to Waves, Deep Blue Life and the ECOBOARD Project.
The ECOBOARD Project is focused on reducing carbon footprints, increasing the use (and reuse) of renewable, recycled and up-cycled inputs, and reducing toxicity within the surfboard manufacturing process. Together with Pure Strategies, Sustainable Surf made a study to compare the carbon print of a standard “poly” and an Ecoboard, you can read it here.
The Ecolabel provides a multi-level pathway for the verification of sustainable materials used in boards designed for water sports. As mentioned above we received the Ecoboard Goldlevel Label for all our Kun_tiqi balsa wood surfboards. For us this proves that we are at the right path to produce the best eco surfboard possible. But there is no time to rest. We care more and always try to improve for the sake of nature! If you have any questions left feel free to contact us.
